Free Harlequin Diamond Calculator
How
to read a ruler in inches:
Boy oh boy...if
you are bad at math, you will love this calculator!
When you are trying to calculate
your harlequin diamond pattern, you will probably run into
ceiling heights and wall lengths that are not coming out in
even numbers. If only this were a perfect world, Right? Knowing
how to read your ruler, yardstick or measuring tape is critical
in this process.
If you feel a bit rusty on how to measure your walls properly,
don't feel too badly. This might be the first time you have
dragged out a ruler since your teacher hit you with one, or
was that just me? To the right is a photo of an english standard
ruler. This is broken down into 1/16th measurements. You may
find that measuring tapes will break down even further into
1/32nds for very precise measurements. For the purposes of
creating your harlequin diamond pattern 1/16th measurements
will work fine. 2/32nds equals 1/16th. You will notice that
16/16ths is equal to one inch. Count the lines above if you
don't believe me!
Our Harlequin Diamond Calculator
will tell you what the height and width of each diamond should
be based on your wall measurements, and depending on how many
rows of diamonds you would like on your wall. The more rows
you want, the more work ahead of you! Make sure you go back
to our instructions to learn how to tape and paint your diamonds,
the link is at the bottom of the page. Measure Your walls
from corner to corner for your length and ceiling to baseboard
for your height. You weren't going to paint the baseboards
were you? Ha Ha!
Figuring out the height and width
of your diamonds is half the battle. Our calculator will help
you in your process to easily figure out where to start. You
can enter any whole number with a fraction or as a decimal
and you will get a correct result. For example, let's say
your wall height is 7' 5" 1/2 inches high. Our calculator
accepts inches, not feet, so convert your feet to inches.
7 x 12 = 84 + 5 1/2= 89 1/2 inches or 89.5 inches. You can
enter fractions or decimals when you enter your numbers in
the wall height and length boxes. Once you enter your wall
height and length and number of estimated rows you would like,
it will tell you what width and height diamond you need to
fit into your wall space. Change the number of rows to change
your dimensions. Your diamond width should be half the size
of your diamond height and will re-adjust according to your
wall dimensions.
For the rest of the world our
calculator will also work with metric milimeters!
TIP:
You may not know how many rows you want
initially, so try several calculations. If you are still now
sure, cut a diamond out of paper the size you think you want
to get a better idea how that will look on your wall. REMEMBER...the
more rows...the more work involved!
