What Should I Do About My Boring Home Decor?
By Michelle Winters
Everyone runs into the same problem at least once in their lives. You move into a brand new home and everything is painted white. The walls are white, the carpets are white, EVERYTHING is white. When confronted with so much empty space and non-existent color, most people freeze like a deer in the headlights. Most of us get so overwhelmed with the enormity of the task before us, that we change very little and the decor stays looking bland and boring. It is easy, so try not to be daunted by the white space. And if you are...
That's ok...think of it as a fresh start. Think of the possibilities for your new home. You can pick out all new colors, furniture, bedding, etc. You also get to pick out brand new decorations. Try something new in your brand new home. Instead pf boring posters or art prints, why not a tapestries? Soft home furnishings bring an air of sophistication and elegance to your wall decor, that you just cannot achieve with posters. You can find numerous styles and sizes of wall hangings at online wall tapestry stores. You can even find tapestry tote bags, tapestry bedding like this: http://www.european-wall-tapestries.com/store/catalog/Tapestry_Bedding_page_1_c_90.html, and other home decor accents. When choosing a tapestry you need to keep a few things in mind. First, look at your newly furnished room and find the most prominent wall. This is usually the wall you see when you walk into the room. Now, consider what other wall decor you already have and think what style might work with it. Then, think about the shades of color in that room. Are they mostly darker shades, lighter shades or neutral shades? This part is important because you need to match the overall color with the color in your room. Keeping those colors in mind, browse through some tapestries. You will probably see some right off the bat that match at least one of the colors in the room. If you cannot find any that match the colors you need, try to find a tapestry that is a shade or two lighter or darker. Also, do not choose a wall tapestry with prominent color that matches your wall color. The wall hangings will blend in with your wall and will do little to create unique home decor.
