Sandwashing brings the rugged outdoors inside with sand and color. This faux technique gives a subtle, lightly textured finish.
Tools and Materials:
• 3” or 4” Nylon/Polyester Paintbrush
• 3/4” Nap Roller
• Gloves
• Drop Cloth
• Paint Tray
• SandWash
Application Tip: For best results, apply a tinted primer to your wall in a color that is close to your selected SandWash color. Apply two coats of SandWash to achieve an even finish.
First Coat:
• Begin at the top corner and use a paintbrush to cut in a 2 ft. strip across the ceiling edge
and down the corner of the wall.
• Generously load a 3/4” nap roller with SandWash, filling in the 2 ft. x 2 ft. area. Continue to cut in and roll out 2 ft. x 2 ft. sections, creating a column down the wall. Overlap sections
slightly to maintain a wet edge.
• As each column is complete, reload the roller and apply a thin coat of SandWash, covering
the entire column area. Repeat this process as you complete each column across the entire
wall.
• The first coat will appear uneven, this is normal. Allow four hours to dry completely before applying the second coat.
Second Coat:
• Apply your second coat of SandWash using the same process as the First Coat. Allow the
finish to dry 24 hours.
For added Durability and Protection:
Use Crystal Clear Water Based Polyurethane for high traffic or high moisture areas.
Topcoating will enhance or darken the color of the SandWash finish. Make sure you take that into account when choosing your color palette.
