Button Bracelets
By Mary Wilkins Kids can learn to sew and understand a few basics while making this cute button bracelet. All you need is a strip of 3/4" elastic long enough to go around their wrist with 1" extra for joining ends. Also, they will need lots of buttons, odd, colourful buttons from any type of clothing. The bigger and brighter, the better. Here is what you do.
Cut 3/4" elastic to fit their wrist with 1" to spare for overlapping. Sew buttons on elastic by hand. They will want good quality polyester thread and a sewing needle. Sew buttons on so that none of the elastic is showing. After the button is sewed on, take the thread to the back of the elastic and tie a knot so the button will not fall off. Sew on all sorts of different buttons. Keep about 1/2" from both ends bare so they can overlap and sew together. There you go, your very own button bracelet. Have fun!!! Mary Wilkins has three grown children and six perfect grandchildren. Completely self taught, she has been sewing, and crafting for over 30 years. Her website http://www.sew-whats-new.com has been recognized in many sewing magazines and newsletters alike. |
