About the Artist...
Hello, my name is
Teresa, I thought you might want to know how and why I started
this business, so here goes...
I grew up as a local resident of St. Petersburg, one of six
children. I have enjoyed drawing and painting since childhood.
My mother reminded me that in the 2nd grade I took a bird
encyclopedia my family had and drew numerous birds with incredible
accuracy for a science project. That must have made an impression
on my parents and later on my brother and I were enrolled
to take art lessons where we learned to paint still-life and
landscapes. That was my only formal training as an artist.
Many years later, my older sister was teaching bible study
for a local church and she asked my brother and I to paint
several religious murals for their
Sunday school classroom. What kid doesn't want to paint on
a wall? We eagerly voluteered. That was my first attempt at
mural painting.
Although I have always enjoyed
art, I never considered a career in an art related field.
I never thought of it as a way to make money. Art was simply
a fun hobby that was useful now and then. I was always the
one that drew the donkey for "pin the tail on the Donkey"
for birthday partys(actually it was an elephant) for my siblings
as we were growing up.....Artists, they have to be different!
I have actually carried on this tradition of painting the
"pin the tail" on whatever. It really depends on
my niece or nephews interests at the time, as to what I paint.
I love it though, they make me happy! Back in the day, I also
would help out my teachers decorating their classrooms or
making posters for some fund raising campaign. I have to say
it is fun to think about these things and wonder how you got
here.
My most recent, what I would
call a "REAL JOB", was as a technical trainer, training
clients to build and manage their websites. I still like to
tinker around with websites and have changed this one several
times to make additions and improvements.
What really got me started in
this business was the birth of my niece. My sister wanted
the perfect little girls room for her daughter. So I was asked
to paint a mural for her room. That mural led to more mural
requests and so on and so on, so here I am, getting to make
money with what was once considered to be "JUST A HOBBY".
Although I do more than just children's murals now, that is
probably my favorite thing to do. I've seen the effect a mural
can have on a child's imagination and ability to learn. At
two years old my niece loves to paint. I think she spends
almost as much time as I do getting her paintings exactly
right before she moves on! If you ask her about her painting
she will tell you she is painting an abstract! Ok, I taught
her that...but she hasn't forgotten it! HEE HEE!
I encourage you to browse my
